In the history of stamp printing all kinds of paper were used and often for the issue of a same stamp different types of paper were used.

In some stamps are kneaded in silk thread paper or other fabric that allows the identification from counterfeit instead of watermark.

In recent decades, the fluorescent paper is used that allows automatic recognition and the consequent annulment by the obliterators prepared for this use.

The paper is not essential in the manufacture of a stamp as there are values on parchment, on metal foils, on cloth, on wood, etc.

For example, it is known the stamp of cloth and lace issued by the Italian Republic in 2004 to celebrate the Art of Lace.
